BRPD closes over half of 2013 homicides with latest arrest

The latest homicide arrest has closed the gap for the number of unsolved homicides in Baton Rouge. There are only 10 remaining open cases out of 23 total investigations conducted by the Baton Rouge Police Department during 2013.

The latest arrest is for a case that happened on Wednesday, May 1. Detectives have linked Jeremiah Brooden, 19, for the death of Jarmayne Bantu, 20, who shot to death while sitting in his vehicle. A second victim in the vehicle was also shot, but survived the incident.

“We’re trying to effectively do the best that we can with the help of the community in solving some of these homicides,” Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. “We need constant help from the community because they are our first line or source of information in these cases.”

Brooden was arrested on Thursday, May 31 shortly before midnight. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for First-Degree Murder and Attempted First-Degree Murder.

  8. C.J. Grisby, Jr., 46, of Baton Rouge
  9. Emanuel W. Hicks, 23, of Baton Rouge: One suspect, Lenard Brown, has already been arrested, but a second is wanted.
  10. Angel Brooks, 19, of Baton Rouge
