BRPD made arrest in attempted robbery

Baton Rouge Police arrested a man for allegedly attempting to rob a Valero gas station near the intersection of Essen Lane and Perkins Road.

Police said it happened Friday in the 7500 block of Perkins Road. Police arrested Cory Berthelot, 22, for Attempted First Degree Robbery.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the clerk opened the "purchase drawer" for Berthelot. When He got the window he told the clerk to "give me all your money," while "pulling up his jacket as if to show a weapon," the affidavit of probable cause said.

Affidavit of probable cause goes on to describe the clerk closed the drawer scared, and Berthelot got in the passenger side of a vehicle and left. That's when according to the affidavit of probable cause the clerk called police and gave them a description of the vehicle's license plate.

Police found the vehicle and Berthelot in a nearby parking lot, and the clerk was able to i.d. Berthelot , according to the affidavit of probable cause.

The affidavit of probable cause said Berthelot told police he did ask for money, but it was "joke."

He was booked in to East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, and later released on a $20,000 bond.
