Police say a man has been arrested in connection to a burglary that happened back in April. Oddly, this was the first of two burglaries at the same home, and the two men accused of the crimes know each other, as well as the victim.

“They burglarized the home on two separate occasions, but were not acting together,” David Melancon, Thibodaux Police Department, explained. “The homeowner knew both of them.”

The first arrest came after Alvin Carter, Jr., was caught rummaging through the home located in the 800 block of North 8th Street. It happened back on May 30, 2013. Carter was arrested and charged with Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling.

“They found that the door to the home was forced opened and Carter, who claimed to be looking for the home owner, inside of the rummaged through home,” Melancon noted. “Police contacted the victim, who was working out of town, and found that Carter never had permission to be there.”

But this was the second time the home had been burglarized. The first incident happened on Saturday, April 26. A neighbor witnessed a man walking away from the home with what appeared to be stolen property.

“Police were able to collect evidence that connected Anthony Johnson to the burglary,” Melancon said. “Friday night, July 19, Police saw Johnson walking near St. Patrick and Hwy 308.”

Johnson was arrested and charged with Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling. He was arrested, and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
