A single-vehicle crash in Larouche Parish claimed the life of two women and the surviving driver was arrested for drunk driving.

The Louisiana State Police reports that the crash happened at roughly 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29. We’re told the driver nearly crashed into an 18-wheeler head-on.

The driver, Jimmy Vizinat, 36, of Larose, was driving on LA 24 when he crossed the center line. His passenger, Patricia Vega, 42, grabbed the wheel and managed to prevent that crash. However, the car went off the road and hit a tree.

Vizinat submitted to a breath test and was found to be over the legal limit. He was arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. He is charged with Vehicular Homicide (2 counts), Vehicular Negligent Injuring (3 counts), Driving Left of Center, and No Driver’s License. HIs bond is set at $351,100.

This crash remains under investigation.
