A 63-year-old man was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver on Friday.

The Walker Police Department reports that the incident occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Florida Blvd near Walker North Road. The victim, Larry Tate, was attempting to cross the intersection when he was hit by a vehicle being driven by Andrew Vining, III, 47, of Denham Springs.

“Mr. Tate was apparently in the process of crossing the roadway and was in the lane of travel when the accident occurred,” Captain Sharp, Walker Police Department, said.

Tate was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A toxicology test revealed that Vining had a blood alcohol level of .091. He was arrested and charged with DWI and Vehicular Homicide. He was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center. His bond is set at $101,000.

The crash is still under investigation.
