A Slidell man was arrested for allegedly beating his elderly father so badly that he was sent to the Intensive Care Unit.

The Slidell Police Department was alerted to the crime by hospital staff on Sunday, May 5. The elderly victim reluctantly told investigators that his son was responsible for his injuries.

Detectives questioned Bradford Dearing, 29, about the incident. He told them that he had gotten into a fight with his father and he punched him once in self-defense.

After reviewing the extensive facial injuries sustained by the victim, detectives determined that they were not consistent with a single punch. They say the victim has massive injuries that required him to be placed in the ICU while he awaited surgery.

A warrant was issued for Dearing’s arrest. He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail for Second-Degree Battery and Cruelty to the Infirmed.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing at this time. They believe there are prior incidents of abuse that could warrant additional charges.
