An employee with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office was arrested after he allegedly exchanged inappropriate text messages with a 15-year-old who resides in another parish.

Officials say Todd Tripp, 24, of Gonzales, has been an employee with the Sheriff’s Office for roughly 18 months and he was in training to become a patrolman. Sheriff Jeff Wiley was made aware of the accusations against Tripp during the morning on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

“I instructed detectives to make this case a top priority and within hours they had run a search warrant at Tripp’s home, seized electronic devices, and brought him in for questioning,” Sheriff Wiley said in a press release.

Investigators learned that Tripp did meet the teen on at least one occasion. It happened at a public venue located in Baton Rouge.

“This investigation is far from concluded, but due to the nature of the allegation and text messages we saw, I felt compelled to act quickly,” Sheriff Wiley added.

Tripp’s employment was terminated and he was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail. He’s charged with Indecent Behavior with Juveniles and Possession of Child Pornography.

Sheriff Jeff Wiley reports that the case regarding deputy Todd Tripp continues and there could be more charges pending the completion of the investigation.
