Gerald pleads guilty to 7 counts of vehicular homicide

Monday, December 10, 2012 - 11:44am

The drunk driver charged with causing a crash in Slaughter that killed seven people plead guilty in court this morning.

District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla tells NBC33 News that Brett Gerald, 30, pleaded guilty to seven counts of vehicular homicide. No plea bargain was entered in this case and his charges were not reduced in any way.

“I’m very satisfied with the outcome,” D’Aquilla, said. “It saved us a lengthy trial and it saved the family from a long trial and heartache.”

Sentencing will be held on March 12, 2013. Each count carries a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 30. We’re told they will ask for the maximum for each sentence due to this being his second DWI arrest.

The fatal crash happened on May 30, 2012 on LA 67 in Slaughter. Gerald had a blood alcohol level of 0.15 percent, which is nearly twice the legal limit.
