A Gretna man was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 18, after allegedly slashing another man’s throat while aboard a boat in Venice, LA.

The incident happened on Dec. 1, between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The Unites States Coast Guard responded to the distress call regarding a 52-year-old man who was bleeding from his neck.

The Coast Guard was initially told that a malfunctioning cable on the boat had caused the laceration on the victim’s neck.

The victim was transported to a New Orleans hospital for treatment.

Police later received new information that the incident was not an accident, and that suspect Lau Thanh Ho, 49, allegedly injured the suspect intentionally.

Investigators interviewed the victim and several witnesses, confirming that the suspect cut the victim’s throat with a large knife during an argument aboard the suspect's boat.

As a result of his injuries, the victim suffered damage to his vocal cords.

Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Lau Thanh Ho for Attempted 2nd Degree Murder. The suspect, however, had fled the area, and police were unable to locate him.

On Wednesday, December 18, Lau Thanh Ho, accompanied by his lawyer, surrendered to PPSO investigators at the Belle Chasse Criminal Investigations Bureau.

Lau Thanh Ho was charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and booked into the Belle Chasse Lockup.

Lau Thanh Ho remains in custody without bond and has a magistrate hearing set for Friday, December 19.
