Grocery store checkout clerk arrested for allowing friends to take items without paying

A Thibodaux woman has been arrested for allegedly allowing her friends to steal thousands from her employer.

The Thibodaux Police Department arrested Aleeka Converse, 25, for allegedly not charging her friends for items sold at the grocery store where she was employed. The employer contacted police on Tuesday, July 23 at roughly 3:30 p.m. to report the theft.

Investigators believe Converse avoided scanning items from June 5 to July 21. In all, they say she’s responsible for allowing for the theft of roughly $5,500 worth of merchandise.

Converse was arrested and charged with felony Theft. She was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center.

We’re told additional store employees could be involved in the theft. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
