Intoxicated driver accused of running traffic signal, killing one in crash
LAFAYETTE, LA (FOX44) — A 24-year-old man died in a car crash last night, and the driver of the vehicle who caused it was arrested for vehicular homicide.
The Lafayette Police Department responded to the crash, which happened shortly before midnight on Sunday, Oct. 14. The incident happened at the intersection of Ambassador Caffery Parkway and Eraste Landry Road.
Officials say a black 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche being driven by Alfredo Tierrablanca, 46, of Texas, was traveling west on Eraste Landry Road when he ran a traffic signal at the intersection. His vehicle then slammed into a Dodge Stratus being driven by Daniel Short, 24, of Scott.
Short was taken to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Tierrablanca was arrested for OWI, Vehicular Homicide and Failure to Obey a Traffic Signal.
Investigators say this crash is still under investigation.
