Judge denies Brandon Scott Lavergne’s second appeal
LAFAYETTE, LA — The Lafayette man who pled guilty to killing two women was denied a second appeal today.
Louisiana’s Third Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Brandon Scott Lavergne’s appeal was improperly filed. This is the second time he has submitted an appeal to the court.
In January, Lavergne submitted a hand-written letter to a judge asking him to void the two guilty pleas he entered in August 2012. In a plea deal, he confessed to killing Lisa Ann Pate and UL Lafayette student Mickey Shunick in exchange for a life sentence.
Lavergne claims that he was pressured into making the deal.
