The Chief for the Kentwood Police Department was arrested today for allegedly tampering with evidence.

The Louisiana State Police reports that Chief Gregory Newton, 59, surrendered himself to detectives on Wednesday, Jan. 16. Officials say the investigation involved missing evidence from a residential burglary.

Reports indicate that Chief Newton was the sole guardian of the missing evidence. Investigators concluded that Newton “intentionally tampered with evidence.”

Newton was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail for one count of Malfeasance in Office and one count of Obstruction of Justice through the tampering of evidence.
