LA State Police arrest Opelousas man for fatal crash, DWI
ST. LANDRY PARISH (KADN) — Louisiana State Police are continuing their investigation into a crash on LA Highway 105, north of Krotz Springs, LA, that claimed the life of Judy Stelly, 54, of Opelousas. Troopers say Nicholas Lafleur, 28, of Opelousas, was drunk when he was driving a 2005 Chevrolet truck and lost control before crashing into a tree.
Investigators say Lafleure was traveling south on LA 105, crossed the center lane, then over-corrected before crashing into a tree. According to reports, no one in the truck was wearing a seatbelt. Judy Stelly, 54, was transported to Opelousas General Hospital where she died from her injuries. Andrea Lacombe, 41, of Walker, LA, was transported to a Baton Rouge hospital in critical condition. A seven-year-old child was also transported to a hosptial with moderate injuries. Louisiana State Police say Lafleur had minor injuries.
After being treated for his injuries, investigators say Lafleur submitted to a Breath Alcohol Test where he registered above the legal limit. Lafleur is in the St. Landry Parish Jail for DWI, Vehicular Homicide, 2 countos of Vehicular Negligent Injuring, Reckless Operation, and 2 counts of No Seatbelt.
