Lafayette man gets shot in thigh defending mom during argument

Lafayette Police say Taylor Hebert, 22, turned himself in at the Lafayette Police Department Saturday after a shooting Friday (7/4/2014) night that left a 39 year old man injured.

LPD says it all happened at an apartment complex in the 300 block of Birch Drive. Investigators say the 39 year old victim saw his mother in an argument, and he went to her assistance. When he attempted to help his mother, investigators say Hebert pulled out a handgun and shot him in the left thigh.

The 39 year year old victim was taken to a Lafayette hospital, and he is expected to be OK. Hebert is currently in the Lafayette Parish Jail, facing Aggravated Battery with a Dangerous Weapon charges. Hebert is expected to appear in a Lafayette courtroom Tuesday (7/8/2014) morning at 8:00 AM.
