Lafayette Parish duo arrested on drug charges in Ascension Parish

Two Lafayette residents have been arrested for selling meth, amongst other charges.

On August 20, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics detectives conducted an undercover operation and purchased meth from Michael Musser, 32, and Theressa Cowart, 22, in the parking lot of an unnamed business in Gonzales on Highway 44.

After undercover detectives purchased a quantity of meth from the duo, detectives attempted to stop the vehicle. After a short pursuit, they successfully stopped the vehicle.

As the two were taken into custody a loaded handgun was found in Cowart’s waistband of her trousers.

After searching the vehicle, detectives found a digital scale, Methamphetamine, Marijuana, Tramadol, Butalbital, Symax, and Clonaazepam.

Mussler was charged with Distribution of Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, three counts of Possession of a Legend Drug, Possession of Schedule IV CDS, Resisting by Flight and Resisting an Officer. He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail awaiting bond. Musser was also convicted of Armed Robbery and served 12 years in Angola Prison and was released in 2009.

Cowart was charged with Distribution of Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, three counts of Possession of a Legend Drug, Possession of Schedule IV CDS, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon and Resisting an Officer. She was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail awaiting bond.
