Two men are locked up after they were caught attempting to steal riding lawn mowers from Home Depot this morning. The crooks reportedly used a stolen U-Haul in the attempted theft.

The Gonzales Police Department reports that the incident occurred in the early morning on Monday, April 1. The suspects, David Lewis, 32, and Jovan Murphy, 33, both of New Orleans, were seen loading a U-Haul box truck behind the store located on Cajun Blvd. in Gonzales.

Officials say the truck contained new riding lawn mowers valued at roughly $6,000.

Lewis and Murphy attempted to outrun police when they arrived on scene. During the chase the duo scaled an 18 foot fenced enclosure. A K-9 unit was deployed and managed to apprehend the men in a wooded area at the intersection of LA 44 and I-10.

Detectives learned that the U-Haul used in the burglary was stolen from a yard in New Orleans.

All merchandise was returned to Home Depot.
