Man arrested after allegedly raping, robbing woman at knife-point
BAKER, LA — A Baker man has been arrested after he allegedly kidnapped, robbed and raped a woman on November 2.
According to authorities, the victim told them she was parked in a lot on Plank Rd when a man, later identified as James Wells, 24, entered her car, armed with a knife.
She was ordered to drive behind a business in Baker. When they arrived, the victim stated that the man pulled her into the back seat of the vehicle and raped her. She said he then told her to drive to another address on Plank Rd., stole her ATM card and fled the vehicle.
Investigators received video surveillance from the store where the alleged kidnapping occurred and identified Wells.
When Wells was contacted, officials found items belonging to the victim in his wallet. Wells said that he met the victim, and she wanted to buy some prescription medication from a friend of his. Wells said that they drover to the dealer's house in her car, bought the pills, and then had consensual sex behind a Baker business.
Wells also told deputies that his knife may have been out of his pocket at the time the victim was crushing and snorting pills, however, he was not sure. He did admit to investigators that he stole the victim’s ATM card.
Wells was placed under arrest and charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Rape and Aggravated Kidnapping. He was transported to the EBR Parish Prison where he is currently being held awaiting bond.
