Man arrested for OWI after forcing deputy to swerve into ditch
BROUSSARD, LA (FOX44) — A Lafayette man was arrested for a second offense OWI after he allegedly cut-off a deputy who was responding to a different call.
Officials with the Lafayette Sheriff’s Department tell us Edwin Mott, 41, was arrested at around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 3. He was driving around Mogan Ave. near Ridgeview Drive in the town of Broussard.
We’re told the arresting deputy was responding to a call when Mott allegedly turned his vehicle into the path of the deputy. The deputy says he was forced to slam on his brakes and swerve into a ditch to avoid hitting Mott’s car. Mott was stopped an the deputy detected alcohol on his breath.
Mott refused to take a sobriety test or a chemical breath test.
Mott was arrested due to his erratic driving and was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional C enter on OWI Second Offense. Mott’s previous OWI was issued in July 2011 in Iberia Parish.
