LAKE CHARLES, LA (FOX44) — A Moss Bluff man has been arrested after getting into a fist fight with State Troopers after they offered to give him a safe ride.
During the late afternoon hours of June 25, a concern citizen called authorities after he saw a man jumping in and out of traffic on U.S. Highway 171 near Lake Charles in Calcasieu Parish.
Two nearby State Troopers made contact with the pedestrian, Michael Paul Gaudin, II, 21, near the middle of the highway.
In order to keep both Gaudin and travelers in the area safe, officials told Gaudin they would give him a ride in order to get him off the highway.
Per routine, they checked Gaudin for weapons before allowing him in the car. However, the troopers found a suspicious object, which they thought was drug-related, and went to detain Gaudin to assess the situation.
At that time, Gaudin went into a frenzy, punching one of the troopers in the face and attempting to fight both troopers simultaneously. Officials tazed Gaudin to bring the enraged man down.
During the scuffle, one of the troopers suffered torn ligaments in his leg and a possible dislocated ankle, while the other was unharmed.
Gaudin was charged with Obstructing a Public Passage, Resisting an Officer, Felony Battery on a Police Officer, Misdemeanor Battery on a Police Officer, Simple Criminal Damage to Property, Disturbing the Peace by Public Intoxication and Pedestrian Walking Improperly Upon a Highway.
