PORT ALLEN, La (FOX44) — Three arrests have been made after $10,000 worth of copper was stolen from a warehouse in West Baton Rouge Parish.

Deputies said they caught Dave Wilkerson, 41, Roosevelt Lewis, 41, and Irving Colbert, 44, all of New Orleans -- in the act of trying to steal even more copper from the old United States Post Office distribution center near Port Allen.

The men made allegedly made off with two truck loads worth thousands in copper a few days ago. Before they could finish the job, the owner of the building noticed someone had tampered with the property, and called the sheriff's office.

"When (the owner) returned back Saturday," West Baton Rouge Sheriff Mike Cazes said, "they noticed the building had been tampered with. They figured they would be back because they cut his lock and put their lock on the chain."

The three men returned as deputies had surveillance on the building. One man was captured trying to leave out a door. Another was found in the attic. The third suspect was found on the roof.
