NOTE: The names of the suspects in this case are being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

A Covington woman and her ex-boyfriend have been arrested for allegedly raping the woman’s biological daughter over the course of several years.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the investigation was launched earlier this month after the child notified school officials that she was the victim of sexual behavior. The girl was immediately placed in the custody of Children and Family Services.

“Over the course of the investigation, detectives learned that the man and woman both participated in the acts, which occurred over a number of years, beginning when the girl was five years old,” Sheriff Jack Strain said.

The girl reported that the last incident occurred roughly one year ago. Details regarding the type of abuse that occurred were not provided, only that it was sexual in nature.

Both the mother and her ex-boyfriend were questioned by investigators. The male reportedly provided information consistent with the victim’s statement. The mother, however, has refused to comment at this time.

Both suspects were arrested and charged with one count of Aggravated Rape. Their bonds have been set at $300,000 each. They are being held in the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
