A shooting that resulted in the death of a 39-year-old woman placed Ponchatoula High School on lockdown this morning. Deputies are currently working to locate the suspect.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident occurred at roughly 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23 at a home on Brookfield Drive. We’re told deputies arrived on scene to find the victim, April Vanderlinden, suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Deputies quickly identified Ryan Pourciau, 18, as a possible suspect. Because of his connection to Ponchatoula High School and the close proximity of the shooting scene, officials placed the students on lockdown.

Officials there are active warrants out for Pourciau for violation of protective orders that were placed against him.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
