THIBODAUX, LA (FOX44) — A pregnant woman is being closely monitored by medical professionals after she was attacked by three women last week. Officials say the incident started over an accusation.
“They attacked the pregnant victim over suspicions she was cheating on her boyfriend,” David Melancon, Thibodaux Police Department, said. “What started off as a verbal argument ended with them physically attacking the victim.”
Natasha Anderson, 30, Laquita Duncan, 22, and Dashawna Deville, 24, allegedly went to the home of the victim on Wednesday, June 26 shortly before 1:00 p.m. After accusing the victim, they allegedly started a physical fight and hit the victim more than once.
“When police arrived on scene, there was a vehicle that attempted to flee the scene and refused to stop for officers,” Melancon added. “The vehicle led police on a chase that ended in the 1200 block of Louise Street, but not before ramming a police cruiser. The driver exited the car and took off running. After a brief foot pursuit, they were able to take them into custody.”
Once the driver and passenger were apprehended, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and found 308 grams of marijuana inside.
Officers arrested the driver, Carl Jone, 27, for Disturbing the Peach, Resisting an Officer, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, and an outstanding warrant for Violation of Parole.
Deville was a passenger in the vehicle. After officers learned that she was involved in the physical altercation with the pregnant victim, she was arrested and charged with one count of Simple Battery.
Back at the home of the victim, while officers were arresting the two additional females for Simple Battery, a fourth female arrived on scene. Her exact relationship to the individuals involved is unknown at this time.
“Shanice Jones showed up at the scene and barged into the home,” Melancon noted. “She demanded to speak to the victim and began yelling and cursing.”
Jones was arrested for Disturbing the Peace.
The victim was transported to a local hospital due to complaints of abdominal pain. Being only a few weeks pregnant, doctors are monitoring her closely for her health and the health of the baby.
