The man charged with kidnapping and raping a Baton Rouge woman is now facing an additional rape charge. The new case involved a 14 year old girl and the alleged rape happened 12 years ago.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office booked Michael Rushing, 48, of Baker after DNA linked him to the 12 year old rape investigation.

Rushing was first arrested by the Baton Rouge Police Department after he was identified as a suspect for allegedly kidnapping a woman at gunpoint from the Bone and Joint Clinic on Hennessey Blvd. on Friday, July 27.

Rushing is accused of taking the woman to Iberville Parish and raping her. He then drove the woman back to Baton Rouge and allowed her out of his vehicle at the McDonald’s on Nicholson.

Rushing reportedly provided details about his life to the victim. That information was used to identify him as a suspect.

“The victim remained calm and remembered details about what he said and what he looked like, the interior of the vehicle the exterior of the vehicle,” Cpl. Tommy Stubbs, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. “Ultimately, that was what helped us quickly identify him.”

Rushing was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for Second-Degree Kidnapping and Aggravated Rape. After his arrest DNA evidence was gathered and entered into the CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) database. Today, CODIS matched Rushing to the case that was filed on June 16, 2000.

The original report says that the 14 year old girl was picked up by a suspect while she was walking in her neighborhood. It happened around 10:00 p.m. The suspect forced the girl into his truck and blindfolded her. He then took her to a residence and allegedly raped her.

The victim was then taken back to her neighborhood and dropped off.

"We are checking to see if we have any similar type cases from the past," Casey Hicks, East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, said. "As far as I know, this is the only match EBRSO has had in the CODIS database."

Rushing was rebooked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for Second-Degree Kidnapping and Forcible Rape for the 2000 incident.
