"He was protecting the family, keeping them from coming inside the apartment," says friend Belle Bellard

A 24-year old man was shot at the Pueblo Apartments around ten Monday night. According to Bellard the man 'Travis' had just moved to Baton Rouge to start a new life with his wife 'Alice' and newborn baby 'Noah'. He died protecting them from two robbers

"She's safe, the baby's safe. That's all he would have wanted," says Bellard

Neighbors say he was shot once in the abdomen. he died at the hospital.

"We saw him laying in the door and he looked gone," says neighbor Susannah Turner

Susannah Turner lives with Bellard right next door to where Travis lived. They know how close they came to being victimized late Monday night. Now, they're planning on leaving Baton Rouge and going someplace safer.

"It's too much. It's not safe. I don't want to be in harm's way," says Turner

But no matter where they move, they say they'll always remember their friend who loved to play the guitar while sitting in his chair in the front of his apartment.

"He was really friendly to everybody. He was always willing to do something for somebody. So it was really nice to have him around. He always cared about his family. That was important to him," says Bellard.

Travis was a Father, Fiance, Son, Brother, grandson, and Friend. One of the best friends I will ever know. The 9 years he was in my life were some of the best. No one will every take his place or even come close. She was right when she said he would do anything for anyone. So many times he came to my side when I needed someone. Someone to make me laugh when I was sad. Someone to pick me up when I fell. I love him like my own brother and I will never forget him. I miss you everyday, Travis.

You know it is sad. Not ONLY did those man take a great man away from his family but his close friends too. All I can think about is why. My boyfriend work along side of him for months and they were getting close. And for god sake what about the baby? The mother Alice has no job and no money right now to help her feed herself or the Noah. Can't People think of what guns do to another people? I am trying to help and reach out to her and her family.
