A second suspect has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting that happened during an alleged drug deal.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that Julius Thomas, 23, was arrested in connection to the shooting death of Donald Ray Walls, 26.

The shooting happened on Friday, Aug. 2 at roughly 8:00 p.m. Deputies were patrolling near Greenwell Street near a trailer park when they heard gun shots. They located Walls, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Officials say the suspect, Jarvis Fleming, 21, shot Walls and then removed his GPS ankle bracelet so he could drive his friend to the hospital, who was also shot.

Fleming was quickly identified as a suspect and was arrested for First-Degree Murder and Tampering with Electronic Monitor.

Thomas is also charged with First-Degree Murder.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing.

This is the 9th homicide the Sheriff’s Office has investigated during 2013. Of those cases, only one remains open. Click here for a full list of all the homicides that have happened in the parish during 2013.
