Shots fired near student housing on LSU Eunice campus

Thursday, November 1, 2012 - 3:46pm

Two separate shootings occurred early this morning around the student housing on the LSU Eunice campus.

The Eunice Police Department reports that the first call of shots fired came in shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1. Bullet casings were recovered from the scene, but there was no evidence to suggest anyone had been harmed. The casings were recovered near a student housing facility located on the campus.

Officials say witnesses described a vehicle involved in the incident. Officers conducted three traffic stops of vehicles located in the area that matched the description. We’re told a passenger from one vehicle jumped out and fled through a residential neighborhood.

Officers were unable to locate the person who fled the vehicle. They also noted that the three vehicles searched did not have any evidence to suggest involvement in the shooting.

Roughly thirty minutes after the first call came in, officers were notified of a second call of shots fired in the same area. This time, however, they did not spot any vehicles in the area.

At this time police do not have any suspects in custody. However, they say the case is still under investigation.
