Shreveport Police looking for man that nearly ran over detective
SHREVEPORT, LA — Shreveport Police investigators are looking for a Bossier City man wanted for nearly running over a Shreveport Police detective with a vehicle early this morning.
Just before 7:00 a.m. on April 16, a Shreveport Police Property Crimes detective responded to a complaint of an individual attempting to sell stolen tools in the 300 block of Highland Avenue. As the officer conducted his investigation, he came into contact with the alleged suspect who was standing outside of a vehicle that would be later used in the assault. Apparently startled by the officer, the suspect hurriedly got into the vehicle abandoning the stolen tools. The detective, upon identifying himself as a police officer and issuing loud verbal commands to get the suspect to stop the vehicle, was nearly run over as the fleeing felon sped away.
The uninjured detective was able to ascertain a license plate number and description of the vehicle driven by the suspect. The vehicle was described as a full sized, green colored, 1996 Ford pick up bearing Louisiana plate number W989684 . The truck was last seen speeding off in the 300 block of Highland Avenue.
Investigators have now identified the suspect they believe attempted to run over the officer as Mark Anthony Roberts, 51, of the 400 block of Adair Street in Bossier City. Roberts, has an arrest warrant outstanding for his arrest charging him with one count of aggravated assault on a peace officer with a motor vehicle.
Anyone with any information regarding Mark Anthony Roberts or his whereabouts is urged to call Shreveport Police detectives at 318-673-6955 or CrimeStoppers at 318-673-7373.
