Six Southern University students arrested for selling drugs on campus, another suspect wanted

A month-long undercover operation resulted in the arrest of six Southern University students. They are all charged with distribution of illegal drugs on campus.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the arrests were made during the morning on Friday, Sept. 27. We’re told the operation involved multiple agencies and was executed at the request of school administrators.

“EBRSO narcotics agents began an operation that included purchasing drugs while on campus from suspected individuals,” Casey Rayborn Hicks, EBRSO, said. “Detectives executed a search warrant, with the assistance of the Baton Rouge Constable’s Office and Southern Police Department, seizing 55.4 grams of marijuana and two digital scales.”

Detectives learned that three roommates, Devin Stampley, 20, Trenton Nzekwesi, 22, and Joshua Watkins, 21, were working together to sell the drugs on campus. They lived in an on-campus apartment.

Three additional suspects, Brandon Wells, 19, Edward Paul Rideaux, 20, and Keith Jupiter, 22, were also arrested. Two lived off-campus apartment and one lived on-campus. All three are believed to have been operating independently.

Wells is charged with Distribution of Marijuana and Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Drug Free Zone.

Jupiter is charged with Distribution of Marijuana, Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Drug Free Zone and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Rideaux is charged with Distribution of Marijuana and Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Drug Free Zone.

Watkins is charged with Distribution of Marijuana, Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Drug Free Zone, Distribution of Xanax, Possession of a Firearm in A Firearm Free Zone and Possession With the Intent to Distribute Marijuana.

Nzekwesi is charged with Distribution of Marijuana, Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Drug Free Zone, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Distribution of Xanax.

Stampley is charged with Distribution of Marijuana, Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Drug Free Zone, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Stampley also had an outstanding bench warrant for 1st offense possession of marijuana and a traffic bench warrant.

A seventh suspect who is not a student at the university is also wanted by police for his alleged dealings on campus. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Michael Richard, 28, aka “Puppy.”
