Officers spent the better part of Wednesday involved in a manhunt for a shoplifting suspect who hid in the marsh following a high speed chase with police.

The Slidell Police Department arrested Devin Williams, 27, for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Felony Theft and Aggravated Flight From an Officer.

It all started when Williams allegedly stole items from a T-mobile store in Slidell on Wednesday, July 10. He then took off in a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

Williams eventually crashed the vehicle in a grassy area on I-10 near the Twin Spans in New Orleans.

The passenger in the vehicle, Bernell Morgan, 23, of New Orleans, was immediately apprehended by Police. He is charged with Felony Theft, Injuring Public Records, and Resisting an Officer.

Williams, however, took off running and was presumed to be hiding in the marsh.

Several agencies participated in the manhunt, which lasted until roughly 10:30 p.m. That’s when they located Williams and placed him into custody.

“Yesterday was a great example of law enforcement agencies working together for one common goal,” Chief Randy Smith, said. “Slidell Police would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance: N.O.P.D., St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, Federal and State Wildlife and Fisheries, and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.”

Officials say the case is ongoing at this time and both men are suspects for additional violent crime cases involving the New Orleans Police Department.
