Teacher arrested for battery of special needs student
BATON ROUGE, LA — East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Detectives arrested a teacher today for allegedly battering a handicapped nine-year-old child.
Nerelyn Lava Soreta, 50, of Baton Rouge, has been charged with Simple Battery of the Infirm.
The mother of the child contacted deputies on November 1 in reference to a battery that allegedly occurred on October 30 at Jefferson Terrace Elementary School.
Deputies viewed a video of Soreta pushing the child’s face with her hand and striking her several times on the leg. Deputies also spoke with a witness of the incident.
Soreta turned herself in to detectives this afternoon. She will be booked into parish prison for the above listed charge.
