A 15-year-old was arrested today after he was found in possession of an air-soft pellet pistol, knife and hatchet. Although the boy never stepped foot on school property, deputies initiated a lockdown at a nearby elementary and middle school as a precaution.

“While we don't believe the intent was to harm - protocols put in place by the Livingston Parish School System and the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office worked just as practiced,” Sheriff Jason Ard said. “As a father of two children in the Livingston Parish School System, I am grateful for the open communication between school officials and law enforcement.”

The incident happened at roughly 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23. Deputies were called when a school official noticed the teen on a bicycle near Cecil Drive, which is located near Live Oak Middle School and South Live Oak Elementary School.

“Observant and quick-thinking individuals took action and a potential threat was taken out of the equation,” Sheriff Ard added.

The boy was arrested and charged with Terrorizing (1 count) and Illegal Carrying of Weapons (2 counts). He was booked into the Florida Parishes Detention Center.
