A 16-year-old who was already forced to wear an electronic ankle bracelet for prior burglary charges was arrested in connection to the theft of some heavy duty machinery.

“Detectives recovered a 40ft goose neck trailer and an excavator,” Cpt. Megan Vizena, St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, said. “Both pieces of equipment were reported stolen out of Lafayette Parish within the last 2 months.”

The investigation began after detectives were contacted by an individual who noticed that the VIN number had been scratched off of the equipment. He told detectives that he saw the equipment after he responded to an ad on Craigslist.

“When the complainant noticed a scratched VIN number, he immediately called authorities,” Cpt. Vizena noted.

Detectives were able to link the 16-year-old to the theft of both of the items. He has multiple burglary charges within St. Landry Parish as well as Lafayette Parish.
