A 55-year-old man was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill his family by trapping them inside a burning home. The threats were allegedly an attempt to avoid being evicted.

According to a witness, Wayne Reed was served with eviction papers, which he tore up, ordering him to vacate the family home that he shares with the victim. Reed had been repeatedly threatening to burn the house down, along with the other family house on the property, with everyone in it; at one time giving details on how he would trap the victim in the home.

On Thursday, Aug. 8, around 1:41 p.m., Wayne Reed brought a group of unknown females to the home on St. Charles Street to fight with the victim, prompting the victim to call the Police. Reed, who had fled the scene on August 8, was arrested by Police on August 10 around 10:30 p.m. when he was seen walking on Legarde Street.

Reed was arrested and charged with Communicating of felony False Information of Planned Arson. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. His bond was set at $2,500.
