Three arrested in conjunction with drive-by shooting

Three people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a drive-by shooting in Duson.

On July 23 at 8:53 p.m., Lafayette Parish Emergency Personnel were called to the 700 block of Third Street in Duson concerning a shooting. The caller reported several gunshots being fired. Deputies found a 34-year-old male victim who had received two non-life threatening gunshot wounds from a high powered rifle, one shot to the hip the second in his leg.

The victim reported that while standing outside his home, a vehicle with several males in it pulled up; a backseat passenger exited the car and began firing at the victim.

The vehicle used in the attack was then located by deputies was processed.

On July 30, Trey Prejean, 20, and Reginald Martin, 21, were both arrested. They were charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder for their involvement in the shooting. Both men are being held in lieu of $125,000 bond.

On September 10, Mortimer Cottrell Jr., 23, the person believed to be the shooter in the incident, was arrested by the US Marshal’s Task Force and Lafayette City Marshals Deputies at a home in Abbeville. Cottrell was transported back to the Lafayette Parish Jail where he remains in lieu of a $125,000 bond.

Both Prejean and Martin have since posted bond.

The victim in the case has been released from the hospital.
