A tip to Crime Stoppers is what prompted a man to turn himself in for the shooting death of a Zachary man, police say.

The Baton Rouge Police Department has arrested Areluas Myers, 22, of Baton Rouge for the shooting death of Daniel Shaffer, 40. The incident happened back on April 20, 2013.

Investigators believe Myers shot Shaffer while he was sitting in his vehicle. It was parked in the 5200 block of Packard Street shortly before 11:00 p.m.

Myers reportedly turned himself in to police after he was developed as a suspect due to a tip provided to Crime Stoppers.

Myers is charged with First-Degree Murder, Attempted First-Degree Murder, and Illegal Use of a Weapon.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing at this time.
