A traffic stop on the evening of June 21 in Walker resulted in the arrest of the driver on drug charges.

Police stopped a vehicle on Florida Boulevard near Industrial Drive in Walker at approximately 8:00 p.m. after seeing the driver commit a traffic violation. During the course of interviewing the driver and passenger, officers saw a white Styrofoam cup with a straw inserted through the top in the beverage holder. The vehicle's passenger admitted that it was an alcoholic beverage.

Based on the open container violation, officers requested permission to search the vehicle; the driver, Carl Keller, 51, gave consent.

Authorities found a clear plastic bag hidden between the driver’s seat and the vehicle’s center console which contained a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine. Keller admitted that the drugs were his. He was then placed under arrest.

Keller was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center for Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substances (cocaine), and Improper Lane Usage. During the booking process, Walker Police learned that Keller is on parole under the jurisdiction of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana on cocaine related charges.
