A routine traffic stop has landed two men behind bars on drug distribution charges.

On the morning of September 5 at approximately 07:36 A.M., authorities conducted a stop of a vehicle near mile marker 4 Eastbound on I-10 for the traffic infraction of following too close.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle, later identified as David Wayne Burrell and Sasha Gena Roberts, claimed to be traveling from Houston, TX to Franklin, LA. Both subjects began to act suspiciously.

Following the traffic stop, officials requested permission to search the car. Roberts, the registered owner of the vehicle, refused consent.

A K-9 “Mako” was deployed and obtained an odor response on the vehicle.

A subsequent search was conducted and revealed approximately 45.5 lbs of marijuana and 2.2lbs (1 kilo) of cocaine wrapped in a blue tarp in the bed of the truck.

Burrell and Roberts were both arrested and booked into the CCC for Possession of Marijuana With the Intent to Distribute and Possession of Cocaine With the Intent to Distribute - Over 400 Grams.

The estimated street value for the contraband is $160,000.
