LAFAYETTE PARISH, LA — A Lafayette business owner and another man have been arrested for illegally selling synthetic marijuana.
On July 10, the Lafayette Metro Narcotics Task Force concluded a six month investigation into the business of The Smoke Shop.
This investigation was initiated after receiving several complaints that illegal narcotics (specifically synthetic cannabinoids) were being sold from this business.
During the course of this investigation several undercover buys were made from the business which further lead agents to believe that illegal activity was occurring at the business. Based on this information Metro Agents applied for and received a search warrant for the business of The Smoke Shop. Agents also applied for a received a search warrant for the residence Mohammad Abdalla who had been identified as the owner of The Smoke Shop.
At around 2:00 p.m., both search warrants were executed one at the Business of The Smoke Shop and the other at Abdalla's home. During the search of The Smoke Shop, agents located synthetic cannabinoids valued $14,190 dollars. A search of the residence also revealed other evidence associated with this investigation.
The following subjects were arrested and charged as a result of this investigation:
Mohhamad Abdalla was charged with Produce, Manufacturing, Distribute, Dispense, Possession of Schedule I substances, Transaction Involving Proceeds from Drug Offenses and Money Derived From Drugs.
Joshua Sheppard was charged with Produce, Manufacturing, Distribute, Dispense, Possession of Schedule I substances.
A third suspect, Troy Manson, is still at large; he's wanted for Distribution of Schedule I Narcotics.
