LOCKPORT, LA — Two high school students were arrested after a firearm and several hundred dollars in marijuana was discovered inside their vehicles on Friday.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that agents arrested Jordan Parr, 17 of Lockport after a search of his vehicle turned up a handgun and 20 individually wrapped bags of marijuana. Agents also arrested Cody Stevens, 17, of Lockport after he was also found with 13 individual bags of marijuana.
While walking outside Central Lafourche High School on the morning of Friday, Sept. 20, a school official noticed a car park on school grounds which did not have a parking permit. When the official confronted the driver, Stevens, he noticed a package of cigarettes inside the vehicle. Due to the restriction of tobacco products on school grounds, school officials searched Stevens’ vehicle and discovered 13 individually wrapped bags of suspected marijuana, as well as drug paraphernalia.
Agents with the Lafourche Parish Drug Task Force responded to the scene, and through investigation, they learned about the possible presence of additional marijuana in a vehicle parked near the school. K-9 Deputies responded and a K-9 alerted to the possible presence of narcotics inside a vehicle being driven by Parr.
School officials brought Parr outside to the vehicle and he voluntarily consented to a search. During the search, agents discovered 20 individually wrapped bags of suspected marijuana, approximately 4 Alprazolam pills, and a loaded handgun.
“This is a situation our deputies typically encounter wherein looking into a minor violation ends up leading to something much bigger,” said Sheriff Craig Webre. “We applaud the school officials for being observant and taking prudent actions in this situation. Hopefully, this experience will force these two young adults to re-examine their behaviors and make some critical changes in their lives before it leads down a much darker path.”
The total amount of suspected marijuana seized from both vehicles collective was approximately 45.3 grams with a street value of around $906.
Both Parr and Stevens were placed under arrest and booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on charges of Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Violating a Drug-Free Zone.
Parr was also charged with Possession of Alprazolam (Schedule IV), Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Possession of a Firearm in a Firearm-Free Zone (R.S. 14:95.6).
Stevens is being held on a $6,100 bond. Parr is being held on a $14,100 bond.
