Wanted Arcadia woman leaves 7-month-old in hot car
BOSSIER CITY, LA — A wanted Arcadia woman is behind bars after leaving her 7-month-old child in a hot car for several minutes.
Around 11 a.m., Venus Michelle Lofton, 24, was tracked down by U.S. Marshals and arrested at the Rodeway Inn and Suites for outstanding burglary and drug warrants in Bienville Parish.
While interviewing Lofton, law enforcement learned she had left her infant son alone in her car in the parking lot. The vehicle was running, but the air conditioner was not cooling the inside properly. Officers say the child was sweating and hot, leading them to call emergency crews. The baby was taken to a local hospital. His condition was believed to be non-life threatening.
Bossier City police booked Lofton into the city jail as a fugitive from Bienville Parish and arrested her by citation on the child desertion charge.
Lofton’s brother, Joshua Lee Loft, 21, of Shreveport, was also arrested at the same location for being wanted by Louisiana Probation and Parole.
