A woman has temporarily lost custody of her two children and will spend the next 150 days in jail because she showed up for traffic court with a .271 blood alcohol level.

According to the arrest report, Jessica Wood, 27, of Larose, was scheduled for court on Wednesday, Aug. 7. She was there for the citations of Failure to Secure Registration, Driving Under Suspension, and No Insurance.

The report notes that Wood was visibly intoxicated during her arraignment in Judge Ben Callouet’s courtroom. She allegedly used several profanities when addressing the judge and was slurring her speech. Although she was instructed to refrain from speaking, she continued to do so.

Judge Callouet submitted a plea of “not guilty” regarding her traffic violations on her behalf. However, he had her arrested for Contempt of Court due to her behavior in the courtroom and his belief that she was intoxicated. A later test confirmed that Wood was intoxicated.

Wood had her two children with her at the courthouse. The Department of Children and Family Services took them into protective custody. She could face additional charges of Child Endangerment.

A pretrial hearing has been set for November 12, 2013.
