Woman to spend 17 months in prison for embezzling funds from her employer
BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — A Denham Springs woman will spend 17 months in prison for embezzling funds from her employer, a local doctor.
United States Attorney Donald Cazayoux, Jr., reports that Tara S. Babin, 38, pled guilty to one count of wire fraud. He says she systematically embezzled funds in excess of $113 thousand from her employer.
Babin reportedly had access to her employer’s merchant account and electronic payment machine. Over the course of two years, she used that to transmit credit/refund requests to her employer’s electronic payment contractor. Once the contractor got the money, it was then wire the funds from her employer to her account.
Babin was sentenced to 17 months in prison and 2 years of supervised release after her release.
