A Zachary man was arrested by Walker Police on November 5 following a home invasion.

According to Walker Police, the incident occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Browden Street in Walker.

“Walker Officers were dispatched to reports of a disturbance, possibly involving a firearm, in the 12900 block of Browden Street,” said Walker Police Public Information Officer, Captain John Sharp. “Upon arrival, Walker Officers found Demarcus Ross, 24, of Zachary, being detained by the homeowner and a neighbor. Both the homeowner and Ross were injured.”

Based upon the information provided by Ross and the homeowner, Police believe that Ross unlawfully entered the home on Browden Street seeking to rob the resident. The homeowner confronted Ross in the hallway of the residence and a struggle for the weapon ensued. During the struggle, the handgun was fired twice; once inside the residence, and again when the struggle spilled out into the yard. “One of the shots fired struck Mr. Ross in his left forearm,” Captain Sharp stated. “The homeowner was also hurt, after being hit in the head with the gun. Fortunately, neither of the injuries was serious.” The handgun, a .22 caliber revolver was recovered at the scene.

Ross was taken by Police to the Walker Police Department for questioning, where he was treated by Acadian Ambulance for a superficial gunshot wound. “During questioning, Mr. Ross admitted that he entered the Browden Street residence, armed with a handgun, with robbery as his motive,” said Captain Sharp. “He also told Officers that the robbery was suggested by someone acquainted with the homeowner. We are pursuing that possibility and additional arrests are possible.”

Ross was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on charges of Aggravated Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and Aggravated Battery, where he remains, with bond set at $70,000. Walker Police are continuing to investigate this incident and additional charges are possible.
