BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — Drugstore CVS is starting a nationwide policy on restricting the purchase of nail polish remover.
The company is putting limits on both the amount of nail polish remover can buy and is stating that customers must be over 18 to buy it.
The change in policy is due to an ingredient contained in the remover, which can be used to make methamphetamine.
Some local resident NBC33 spoke with today say it doesn't bother them one way or another, as long as it helps curb the country's drug problem.
"If they are using it to make drugs, they have got to find some way to govern that,” stated Chuck Chenevert. “I mean, look what they did with the other drugs.”
Ben Taylor agreed with the restrictions, "I guess they should do it if it’s stopping the meth makers.”
There is no Louisiana law that sets an age limit for buying acetone products, but there are some states that enforce the requirement.
