DOTD adapting to traffic situation
BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — While drivers were stuck in traffic officials with the department of transportation were working to get you out of that traffic. While they're trying to keep things on the roads smooth...it's obviously been a learning process.
The key they have said, was communication with drivers and clean up crews. Officials even went so far as to make the situation known to the trucking community and asked several truckers to bypass Baton Rouge. While those with DOTD feel they're doing a good job on their end, they admit it's an ever changing situation out there which keeps them on their toes and means constantly adapting to the latest in the traffic situation.
"For this incident we just keep evolving the plan to manage the plan to manage the volume. We have several hundred thousand cars that utilize I10, I-12 on a daily basis. So it's obviously a tremendous amount of volume on local streets. So we're trying to manage that and get everyone home," Jodi Conachen, with DOTD, explained.
DOTD officials are trying to manage the situation by designating priority streets, alternate routes and directing traffic manually.
