BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — The breakaway school district is one step closer to being created.
Today a senate finance committee cleared the bill that allows for money to be given to the district if it's made.
EBR School District Superintendent Dr. Bernard Taylor and his board are opposed to the bill. They say creating the new district will take millions from them. Taylor says he's not surprised it passed through, but vows to continue fighting it.
"We're going to continue to make the case that this is ill advised,” he said. “It just is ill advised because at the end it will create winners and losers and where education is concerned nobody should be a loser."
Senator Bodi White has been pushing for the district. He feels kids will perform better if the school system is broken up.
