Baton Rouge, LA (FOX44) — In addition to fighting crime, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's office wants to improve at fighting breast cancer.
Sheriff Gautreaux hosted a "Breast Cancer 101" class for deputies this afternoon.
It included presentations about risk factors for breast cancer, screening, and treatment options. Since 1 in 8 women will deal with breast cancer in their lifetimes, the sheriff's office says a program like this is very important.
"When our deputies are healthy they come to work they do a great job. So really the community wins when we make sure we will give breast-cancer awareness the time it deserves," Casey Rayborn Hicks, EBR Sheriff’s Office, said.
The sheriff's office is partnering with the Komen Foundation all this month to promote breast cancer awareness, and so are we.
