Early Sunday morning, just before 6:00 a.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle crash that killed a Franklinton resident and injured two others on LA 25 in Washington Parish.

The accident involved two pickup trucks. The first was Driven by Charles Toon, 35, of Foxworth, MS. Toon’s passenger was Teresa Minarik, 33, of Franklinton.

Jonathan Bickham, 32, of Franklinton, operated the other truck.

The preliminary investigation revealed that because of his impairment, Toon veered to the left, crossed the center line, and hit Bickham’s truck head-on.

Bickham suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office.

Toon and Minarik were transported to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor on Toon’s part; however, official toxicology reports are pending. Alcohol is not suspected on the part of Bickham, but blood samples were taken from him as well.

Toon has initially been charged with Driving Left of Center, DWI, Vehicular Negligent Injuring, and Vehicular Homicide.

Toon will be booked into the Washington Parish Jail after his release from the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
